Eulogy for Pitaji

 My Grandfather

Describe a man

Who was a father

a grandfather

An indelible, incredible influence

A huge banyan tree

Under whose shade

We lived

A family- a whole

Often loving, sometimes not-

As families do.

Imagine a man

Who was a friend

A guide

An intellectual companion

of our growing years

redefining,

explaining- and teaching

wise philosophies

that will stay fresh

forever.

Remember a man

Who was an altruist

A philanthropist

Who gave time, money, energy

And only asked for love

And respect

For his traditions

In return

For the good

He did for anyone who asked.

Honor a man

Who was a feminist

A visionary

Scrupulous to a fault

Generous to the extreme

Principled to a degree

Most people can only talk about.

A man of action,

of dignity of thought and deed.

He was my grandfather

But he was also

Without a doubt

the finest human being

I have

ever known.

The void of his absence

But also, the touch of his presence

Will be in my heart

Always.
