choice

Rainy July morning
my coffee bittersweet
eye-rolling news headlines
a new day.
Searching for clues
in latticed faces on crowded buses-
a choice doomed from origin, unborn.
One, a road infinitely exciting
of pseudo-adventure and fun;
the other- warmth, complacent being,
and days and days of love.
Two men so enmeshed in the backwaters of my brain,
a swamp of indecision, longing unexplained.
Tick the right box:
'all of the above', I say
- and fade immediately to another option...
And deeply ensconced in its velvet room,
my ego
beset by integrity
unravels the tangled strands
of choice.
